Product Description

Book A, Get Ready for The Code, teaches consonants b, f, m, k, r, and t. Get Ready for The Code, Get Set for The Code, and Go for The Code, which all introduce the consonant letters, comprise a three-book series of primers for the Explode The Code series. The exercises are designed to develop visual, auditory, and kinesthetic perception of the letters. Activities include tasks such as visual tracking, matching, tracing, copying, and identifying the letters and their sounds. Special emphasis is given to discriminating between similar objects and letters, to developing the motor control necessary to write legibly, and to developing the listening skills children need to follow directions carefully. By the time children finish the series they will have learned all of the lowercase consonant letters as well as their sounds and written forms, and will be ready for Book 1 of the Explode The Code series. For teachers guide to listening exercises - see stock # 379852.

I am a mom who home schools. This is a nice series of workbooks. I am using Get Ready for the Code with my four year old. I have previously used the primers and Book 1 with my daughter, for Kindergarten, and frankly, it wasn't enough. We are using McRuffy Phonics and Reading, and she is learning to decode words, finally! But, The Code (A,B,C) are lovely primers to start out with. That's why I am using it with my preschooler this time around, to prepare for Kindergarten. He likes have a workbook, just like his big sister. If I could change one part of these books, I would change the lowercase printing practice to uppercase. I think this is more developmentally appropriate.

My 4 yr old LOVED this book! We just bought him book B and he can't wait to use it. He whips thru the pages w/ little to no help. I only gave it 4 stars because you do need the teachers edition for some of the pages. Great book, great price!

My son has had a hard time sitting and learning to write, but this book is just right for him. It holds his interest so long that we've gotten four pages done at once!

My son is 4. He has severe language impairment. We have had a very hard time getting him to learn letter sounds. We have been using this book almost every day for 2 weeks. The lessons are very simple, but he enjoys them. There is plenty of repitition for him to actually get the concept, and the second lesson builds on the first one, so there is constant review.

I like it. It's simple, not overwhelming for the kids. Effective. Fun. I'm glad I got it. Also, it isn't prohibitively expensive.

My son is 4 and we are using the Explode the Code series for phonics. He did really well with books A,B and C. He just started Book 1 and is already reading simple words! He and I are both very excited. The books progress well through the letters and get them ready to read.

My son, age 4, who is homeschooling preschool, is learning his letters. My best plug for this book is that it appeals to my son. He liked it right off the bat, even though he has several other books teaching the letters and sounds of the alphabet. I think what he likes most is the large graphics, it is very easy, so he feels successful, and there is writing, but not too much on each page. He likes tracing between the curved lines to match a letter with a picture. Writing is on a large template. My only complaint (but it really doesn't seem to bother my son) is the lack of color on the pages. I think this is a good book for the child that has a basic recognition of the alphabet, but is still just learning the sounds that go with the letters.
